The Sheriff's Office is expressly directed by statute to be a conservator of the peace and, therefore, in accordance with the provisions of section 23-15-50 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, as amended, must arrest all persons for whom criminal warrants have been issued. Consequently, it is the policy of the Sheriff's Office to carry out these duties in a diligent and timely manner. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has assigned deputies to investigate and locate defendants to ensure the compliance of state statute and orders of the court.

This office is also responsible for maintaining physical control of all warrants and juvenile pickup orders received by the Sheriff's Office. This office verifies the information on the warrants is complete, accurate, and current with the most up to date information. The Warrants Office is located inside of the main lobby of the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center at 3841 Leeds Avenue, North Charleston SC, 29405.

If you wish to visit a resident, you must setup an account online at www.SECURUSTech.net. Be aware that a resident may refuse to see any visitor. Out-of-state visitors who present an out of state picture I.D. may be granted one unscheduled visit if space is available.

Question: How do I turn myself in to the Sheriff's Office if there is a warrant for my arrest?

Answer: If you have a Violation Check Law (VCL) warrant you may call the Warrants Office and make an appointment to meet with a deputy at the Bond Court. The warrant will then be served and a bond hearing will follow. Many times a person who turns himself/herself in will be given a Personal Recognizance (PR) bond, meaning they will not have to go to jail. You will be provided a court date and we will then photograph and fingerprint you. Following that, you will be free to leave.

If the warrant is of a more serious nature you may still call the Warrants Office at the number listed above to make arrangements to turn yourself in. If it is during non-business hours, you may call (843) 202-1700 to make the appropriate arrangements.

Question: Why hasn't my warrant been served?

Answer: Generally, warrants of a violent and serious nature are attempted to be served as soon as possible. Other warrants are attempted as additional information is gathered on a subject (i.e. exact whereabouts, place of employment, places frequented).

Question: I missed my magistrate court date. What should I do?

Answer: First, contact the magistrate's office where you were supposed to appear and inquire if a warrant was issued. If no warrant was issued, you may be able to simply pay your fine at the magistrate's office. If a bench warrant has been issued then contact the Warrants Office at (843) 529-7391 and make an appointment with a deputy. Bring cash in the exact amount of the fine imposed and you may meet the deputy at the Bond Court. The deputy will then serve the warrant to you; usually you will pay the fine to the Bond Court, be fingerprinted, photographed and released.

Question: As a victim of a crime is there any assistance available to me while I'm waiting for the offender to be located and arrested?

Answer: Yes, but on a case by case basis. Crime victims should contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Victim/Witness Advocates for guidance on the assistance available.

Question: I was arrested, found not guilty or the charges were dropped, how do I have my record cleared (also known as expunged)?

Answer: There are two ways to have your record cleared. One way is an Order of Expungement ( FAQ Expungement Pardon ).

If you were arrested by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office you may get a copy of your disposition from our Records Office located at 3505 Pinehaven Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405.

You must then take this disposition to the Ninth Circuit Solicitor's Office located at the O.T. Wallace County Office Building, 101 Meeting Street, Charleston, South Carolina, 29401. They will then determine whether you may qualify for an Order of Expungement.

The second method is through the Pre-Trial Intervention program. This is also administered by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor's Office. They can provide you with the appropriate information.

Question: How do find out if I have a warrant for my arrest?

Answer: This can be accomplished in a couple of ways.
