Community Education & Involvement

Charleston County EMS is a dedicated partner to the citizens and visitors of Charleston and their health. Charleston County EMS raises awareness and educates the public to target and prevent public health issues in Charleston and the surrounding area. Charleston County EMS is committed to ensuring the safety of Charleston's children, teens, adults and elderly. In an effort to better the lives and health of its citizens, Charleston County EMS has numerous programs in the community to ensure involvement on a local level with the people we serve.

Charleston County EMS attends numerous events sponsored by local non-profit agencies and civic organizations such as schools, churches, and community health fairs. Speakers

CCEMS Paramedics frequently are asked to come and speak to various types of groups on a wide range of subjects. Some of the things that CCEMS speaks on are being a paramedic, the certification process, how 911 works, what a day in the life of a paramedic is like, pre-hospital medicine, first aid and emergency preparedness.

Demonstrations

Ambulances are something that many people do not get to look at closely. CCEMS may be able to come by your next event to tour the ambulance and demonstrate some equipment.

High School Injury Prevention Coalition

CCEMS is a supporter of the High School Injury Coalition (HSIPC). HSIPC is a 501(c)3 organization comprised of numerous volunteers from local hospitals, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Departments, Police Departments, Rescue Departments, Chaplains, and other groups interested in the well-being of citizens. The HSIPC provides monthly events in High Schools that are involved in the program across Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley Counties. The events range from speakers, candy handouts, crash re-enactments, golf cart rodeos, vehicle demonstrations, and numerous other activities. HSIPC educates high school students about the importance of seat belt usage, dangers of drinking and distracted driving. This organization has a proven track record for increasing seatbelt use by the students that participate in the program. Car Seat Inspection

CCEMS has several employees that are certified child restraint inspectors thru Safe Kids. CCEMS provides free car seat evaluation to ensure car seats are properly installed. This is done by appointment only. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates around 75% of children are riding in car seats that are not properly installed or fit the child correctly. CCEMS cares about your little ones and wants to make sure they travel safely.

Special Event Coverage

CCEMS is the sole 9-1-1 medical provider in Charleston County, and as such, we frequently cover events with large numbers of people. CCEMS is always ready to respond, and we also like to be prepared, so if you are having a large event, please let us know so that we can be better prepared to respond to you in the event of an emergency. Lowcountry Resuscitation Alliance

The Lowcountry Resuscitation Alliance (LRA) is a 501(c)3 organization comprised of numerous Health and Public safety agencies including CCEMS. The mission of the Lowcountry Resuscitation Alliance is to optimize the regional cardiac arrest chain of survival through collaboration, professional development, and community engagement. Stop the Bleed

The Stop the Bleed campaign's goal is to make our nation more resilient by better preparing the public to save lives if people nearby are severely bleeding. This preparation is being done by raising awareness and teaching people how to learn three quick actions to control serious bleeding. Ride-A-long

CCEMS allows for students in medical studies to ride along on our ambulances to learn more about EMS. If you are a student interested in EMS or a medical field please contact us at EMSRideAlong@CharlestonCounty
