Civic involvement:

  • Founder Citizens Patrol Against Drugs (CPAD) - an organization that patrolled the Liberty Hill community unarmed from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM to prevent the selling of illegal drugs. CPAD was studied by the police departments of Columbia, Florence, and Greenville, SC. Received national award for its innovation and success. There were no drug-related deaths within Liberty Hill for 11 years after CPAD ended its patrol. The organization went into five other drug-infested communities to have drugs eradicated.
  • Co-founder Citizens Patrol Against Drugs II with Councilman Teddie Pryor on the East Side of Charleston where shootings and killings took place every 12 days. Thereafter, it was several years before a drug-related death occurred. The organization also went into the Chicora-Cherokee and Union Heights communities.
  • Co-founder of the Denmark Vesey & the Spirit of Freedom Monument Committee whose mission was to erect a monument in honor of Denmark Vesey.
